While growing up I never had books around my home. I was never read to and the reason for that is because my parents’ highest education was fifth grade. They are poor readers in their own language which is Spanish. They would read to me in Spanish because they were ashamed of their quality of reading and because they saw it useless to read to me in Spanish since they wanted me to learn the English language. Spanish was the first language I learned how to read and write and my parents were not too excited about that that is why I did very little reading at home.
